“I have always struggled to express what my style is. I knew what I liked when I saw it but I didn’t know how to describe the look and feel of it, nor was I able to cohesively pull it all together. Ettie was able to translate my preferences into a vision and develop a plan to redesign the look and feel of my house.”
-Jess Brown, Homeowner
Jess originally reached out in the Spring of 2020 with hopes of finishing her powder bath and a few other home projects. I was just days away from giving birth to my son and #COVID, so we had to press pause. Thankfully, Jess reached back out later in the year to discuss her powder bath, dining room, formal living room and family room.
Jess has fantastic style and it was easy to pick up on her preferences during her in-home consultation. She loves traditional pieces and New England elements: lots of blue and white, woven materials, leather, marble and traditional silhouettes.
Our design focus: determine home style, execute style and wrap up unfinished spaces.
We moved forward with a concept board to serve as a guide through multiple spaces. A concept board really leads the direction for your home and helps with cohesiveness.
When deciding what your conceptual design is, consider:
Design Inspiration for this Project
There is nothing more impactful on a space than putting in new furniture. It breaths fresh energy into the space. For this project, we kept a handful of vintage pieces but sourced many new pieces to make it feel like a completely updated space.
Our “swing for the fences” moment was the dining room wallpaper.
If you’re looking for an upscale, unique, preppy look for your home, I cannot recommend Schumacher wallpaper and fabric enough. It adds a layer of luxury and sophistication to any space.
We ultimately went with the Hydrangea Drape for three main reasons:

Once the design was set, we set out to:
“The design process was easy and fun- we reviewed different pieces and looks, which enabled Ettie to formulate a concept and create a space that not only speaks to my style but also allows for functional family activities. Layouts were modified, wallpaper added, paint colors refreshed, and furniture changed, all within the constraints of my budget.”
-Jess Brown, Client
There is nothing more satisfying than seeing the dramatic difference between the before and after pictures. Beforehand, the space was nice, but the afters look like they could be in the pages of a glossy Southern Living magazine. Actually, maybe they SHOULD BE in the glossy pages of a Southern Living magazine?!
Even better than these spaces, is the relationship between our team and Jess. There were definitely bumps in the road, but we came out on the other side with a positive experience and a beautiful space. I am grateful everyday for the trust and kindness of clients like Jess that make every project task worth it.
“Aside from providing great service, Ettie was so much fun to work with and be around. Her newsletters are filled with great styling advice and tips. I can’t wait to have her back to design my next space!”

And that we are! Onwards to her study, and I will be sure to report back for that as well.
